Water purity: the core of safe dialysis
During a single haemodialysis session, a patient's blood is exposed to roughly 120 litres of dialysate fluid. Chemical contaminants, endotoxins or bacteria in the water supply can cross the semi-permeable membrane directly into the bloodstream, triggering fever reactions, inflammation and long-term cardiovascular stress. Our unit runs its own reverse osmosis (RO) water purification plant, maintained to recognised dialysis water standards (AAMI), with periodic endotoxin and chemical testing of the water.
