At the bottom of the food pipe is a ring of muscle that should stay shut after food passes. When it relaxes at the wrong time, stomach acid flows back up and burns the lining — heartburn, sour burps, a cough at night. Large or late meals, lying down soon after eating, extra weight and smoking make it worse. Most reflux settles with these changes and medicines; difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools or weight loss need an endoscopy.

Read the full article →Often, yes. Fatty liver means fat has built up inside liver cells — very common with weight gain, diabetes and alcohol, and often found by chance on an ultrasound. In its early stages it can be reversed: losing even 5% of body weight reduces liver fat, and 7–10% can calm the inflammation. Left alone, some people go on to scarring (cirrhosis), so liver tests and follow-up matter.
