NICU is Neonatal intensive care unit and PICU stands for Paediatric Intensive Care Unit are designed to provide complete care, comfort to the children. While NICU is concerned with cases of premature birth, low birth weight, birth abnormalities, neonatal jaundice, infant respiratory distress syndrome and PICU is concerned about trauma, fever, poisoning, immunological disorders, severe infections and other such allied conditions

Cold and flu are the common ailment in children and there are many over the counter medication available for the same. However, you need to make sure not to provide such OTC medicines to children who are less than four years old. It is always better to consult a paediatric who can rightly treat cold and flu through antibiotics and other medicines depending on the severity of the condition, age group and lifestyle of the children.

QUES 1. HOW LONG SHOULD I BREASTFEED EXCLUSIVELY?
ANS 1. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO BREASTFEED EXLUSIVELY TILL 6 MONTH AND CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST 1 YEAR.
 

QUES 2. DOES MY BABY NEED WATER?
ANS 2. IN THE FIRST 6 MONTH WATER NEED NOT BE GIVEN IF BABY IS TAKING EXCLUSIVE AND ADEQUATE BREAST FEED.

 

QUES 3. DOES THE COLOR OF THE POTHY MATTERS?
ANS 3. COLOR OF POTHY CAN SHOW VARIATIONS DEPENDING ON THE FEED. IT CAN BE IGNORED UNLESS IT IS WHITE & CHALKY OR THICK BLACK AND RED. THESE COLOR SHOULD ALARM YOU.

 

QUES 4.WHAT IS THE NORMAL FREQUENCY OF POOP?
ANS 4. AVOID FIXATING ON NUMBER OF TIMES YOUR BABY POOPED. IT CAN VARY 10 TIMES A DAY TO A FEW TIMES IN A WEEK. SIGNIFICANT TO WATCH FOR WET DIAPERS WHICH SHOULD BE MORE THAN 6 TIMES A DAY.

ANS 8. JAUNDICE IS NORMAL IN NEWBORN BUT IF THE SKIN OF BABY SEEMS VERY YELLOW AND BABY IS VERY SLEEPY AND NOT FEEDING WELL CONSULT YOUR PAEDIATRICIAN IMMEDIATELY.

 

QUES 9. DOES MY NEWBORN NEED TO BATH EVERYDAY?
ANS 9. NO, TILL UMBILICAL CORD FALLS OFF BETTER TO JUST GIVE SPONGE BATH THERE AFTER BATHING UPTO ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK IS ALSO SUFFICIENT.
